ESUMS Back to School SY2026-2027

Dear ESUMS Families and Students,

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year! Whether you are joining us for the very first time in middle school or returning as a seasoned upperclassman, I am thrilled to welcome you back to Engineering & Science University Magnet School.

Having served as your principal since 2011, I can say with complete confidence: our momentum has never been stronger. ESUMS continues on an extraordinary upward trajectory. As Connecticut’s top Magnet School of Excellence, our success is built on a simple promise—we do not settle for static learning. We push boundaries, foster deep critical thinking, and build an inclusive community where every student thrives.

🎓 Our 2026–2027 School Theme

Every year, our community unites under a shared purpose. This year, I am proud to announce our 2026–2027 school-wide theme:

Thinking Critically, Building Community

This theme is directly tied to our Portrait of a Graduate (PoG) framework, ensuring that every student is equipped with the real-world skills, adaptability, and ethical grounding needed for 21st-century leadership:

  • Middle School (Grades 6–8):

We are launching the brand-new SpaceEdu platform, giving our younger scholars an interactive way to track their PoG learning milestones.

  • High School (Grades 9–11):

Students will build and grow dynamic digital portfolios, regularly documenting their critical thinking, analytical achievements, and growth.

  • Senior Year (Grade 12):

Our Class of 2027 will showcase their journey through rigorous, PoG-aligned Capstone projects presented directly to our school community and industry partners.

Together, we aren't just learning content—we are learning how to lead, innovate, and care for one another.
